Multi-Sector Research

Impact Charitable is piloting a first-of-its-kind platform to incubate philanthropic funds and warehouse deals—giving aspiring impact-first fund managers the opportunity to test their investment thesis and execute transactions without having to form a legal fund entity.

Project

Impact Charitable’s project addresses a critical gap in the emerging manager ecosystem in the U.S. by supporting fund managers before a legal fund has been established. It includes an AI-powered tool to build investment policy statements, incubation for a cohort of fund managers, deployment/warehousing of a funding pool, and publication of a playbook of workflows, learnings and case studies.

Value and Outcomes

Regardless of geography or thematic area, the project would allow managers to test their investment thesis and execute transactions without having to first incur hundreds of thousands of dollars in cost over a lengthy time horizon, as is typically the case when establishing a fund.

Impact Charitable plans to onboard three to five aspiring fund managers, incubate six to eight transactions and deploy/warehouse as much as $5 million in grants, recoverable grants and program-related investments through its existing 501(c)3 infrastructure.

By creating a free, open-source tool, the project aims to accelerate new fund formation while expanding opportunities for historically underinvested managers with more limited resources. Building on an existing platform that already administers philanthropic funds, it offers a replicable model for early-stage fund incubation, creating infrastructure that could benefit the field more broadly.
